Triathlon Training
Writing a training schedule for yourself can be a daunting task. Writing a triathlon schedule is very, very hard. This page will give you some tips on how you can plan a training schedule for your upcoming triathlons. If you have never done anything like this before (or even if you have), I suggest you buy a book on triathlon training. There's no way a simple website can help you well enough.
What I can do, is tell you about some methods that will help you schedule your training sessions.
Training Basics
One of the most important things in training for any endurance event, is that you get stronger while resting.
Huh?!?!
It's true. Basically what happens while you're training is that you use your muscles and they get weaker during the training. You know this is true, because after a good workout, you can't perform as well as at the start of your workout.
After your trainig you rest. When you rest, your muscles repair and usually get stronger than they were before your training. This phenomenon is called supercompensation.
Now it's pretty important no to train before you are recovered. If you do this, you'll make your body weaker and weaker. When you are recovered, your fitness level is higher than it was before the previous workout. You can train again and you'll recover even stronger.
It's also important not to wait too long after your workout before you train again. If you do this, you'll have lost the supercompensation gains you've gotten from your last workout and you have to start over again.
This is a simplified description of what happens while training, but it's probably the most fundamental principle for every endurance sport.
Triathlon Schedule
Okay, now you understand that, I'll make it a bit more difficult for you. Triathlon, obviously, has not set of workouts to take into account, it has three. Making a triathlon schedule is therefore much, much harder. Of course, it's also much, much more fun to do. :)
To be continued...
I hope I've gotten you exited for creating a good triathlon training schedule. I'll write some more training tips soon. In the meantime, if you're serious, buy a good book on triathlon training.
